LOCAL VOCALZ are an 80 strong Cornwall based choir which rehearse in Hayle on Monday evenings and Falmouth on Wednesday evenings. Although the choir rehearses in Hayle and Falmouth, Members are drawn from all areas West of Truro as far afield as Lands End. The choir sings a wide range of music, including classical, folk, pop, show tunes and other light-hearted repertoire.
The choir performs concerts and undertakes other engagements, competes in local music festivals and has a busy social life, including parties, meals out, social events and trips. In 2012, the choir enjoyed a short tour of Normandy and Brittany which culminated in a public concert in Bayeaux Cathedral. The French trip is now a popular yearly event. The choir has performed on several occasions in Truro Cathedral as well as at concerts in Penzance, St Ives and Gwennap Pit. In recent years, the choir has enjoyed performances down a mine in Cornwall (where they performed in a huge cavern, ate pasties and drank wine) and also on the world famous St Michael's Mount near Penzance. In addition to concerts, the choir has performed in several music festivals winning several trophies over the last few years.
Although Local Vocalz is in effect, two choirs in one, both groups of the choir sing the same repertoire and perform together regularly.
In 2016, Local Vocalz progressed to the south-west regional heat of the prestigious BBC TV "Choir of the Year" competition and performed admirably.
